Prof. Dimitrios I. Fotiadis received the Diploma degree in Chemical Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens, Athens, Greece, in 1985, and the Ph.D. degree in Chemical Engineering and Materials Science from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, MN, in 1990. He is currently a Professor of Biomedical Engineering in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, the Director of the Unit of Medical Technology and Intelligent Information Systems, Department of Materials Science and Engineering, University of Ioannina, Ioannina, Greece, and an Affiliated Member of FORTH, Biomedical Research Institute. He was a Visiting Researcher at the RWTH, Aachen, Germany and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Boston, MA. He has published more than 140 papers in scientific journals, 270 papers in peer-reviewed conference proceedings, and more than 25 chapters in books. He is the editor of 16 books. His research interests include modelling of human tissues and organs, intelligent wearable devices for automated diagnosis and bioinformatics. His work has received more than 1,500 citations.

Nikolaos S. Katertsidis obtained a BEng in “Electronic Systems Engineering” from UMIST, UK (2000) and a MSc. in “Communications and Signal Processing” from Imperial College, UK (2001). Previously, he was employed at Huntchison3G, UK as a Radio planning engineer; at Lehman Brothers, UK as a Network systems engineer; and at Hellenic Army (Signal Corps) as a Communications engineer. Between 2004 and 2009, he worked for the University of Ioannina – Research Committee, having R&D tasks. During that period, he participated in several EU projects and national-funded research programs. Furthermore, he drove the development of Metropolitan Area Networks for the University of Western Macedonia/Hellenic Observatory for the Information Society (2005 – 2009), and worked as a researcher for the Institute of Communications and Computer Systems – ICCS (2010).

Alexandros T. Tzallas was born in Athens, Greece, in 1977. He received B.S. degree in Physics from the University of Ioannina, Ioannina, Greece (in 2001) and Ph.D. degree in Medical Physics from the University of Ioannina, Ioannina, Greece (in 2009). He has worked on several research and development European and national programs as a software engineer, researcher, seminar instructor and post-doc researcher. He has three years of teaching experience in universities and technological educational institutes. He has published 11 papers in scientific journals, 16 papers in peer-reviewed conference proceedings and 1 chapter in book in less than 8 years of research activity. He is currently working as post-doctoral researcher at FORTH. He is a member of IEEE and reviewer in several scientific journals and conferences.

Markos G. Tsipouras was born in Athens, Greece, in 1977. He received the diploma degree, the M.Sc. and Ph.D degree in Computer Science from the University of Ioannina, Greece, in 1999, 2002 and 2009 respectively. He is currently working as post-doctoral researcher at FORTH. He is a member of IEEE, and has published more than 14 papers in scientific journals, 26 papers in peer-reviewed conference proceedings, as well as more than 6 chapters in books. His research interests include biomedical engineering, decision support and medical expert systems, and biomedical applications.
